Sammy Keyes and the Wild Things by Wendelin Van Draanen

Sammy Keyes is not looking forward to her summer vacation. Her two best friends are out of town, so she's just hanging out on her own. Her loneliness is probably what made her do something this dumb. She has signed up to go camping with the Girl Scouts! Sammy realizes her mistake too late, as she is traveling in a van out to the middle of nowhere. The purpose of the trip: to look for condors, a big, ugly bird that is almost extinct. Like Sammy cares. But as the trip progresses and a fellow camper gets lost, Sammy begins to see just how important that ugly bird is. A great adventure mystery.

Down the Rabbit Hole: An Echo Falls Mystery by Peter Abrahams

Echo Falls is your typical large town/ small city. It is quiet and people take care of their own. Until the day that Cracked Up Katie, a local character, is found murdered in her home. No one is more shocked by this news than Ingrid Levin-Hill. Ingrid had just seen Katie the day before, had even been in her house (although she really hoped that no one, especially her parents, found out about that), and she can't believe she is really dead. Then comes the realization that she might be labeled as a suspect, or at the very least, a witness to the murder. The problem is that Ingrid accidentally left her very distinctive red soccer shoes at Katie's house. If the police find those shoes, they will want to talk to Ingrid. That would mean that her parents will find out that she was where she shouldn't be. The only solution is to get those shoes back, even if it means really breaking the law.
