Setting: 1930s (The Great Depression) in Washington, D.C.
Grace's family has been through a lot in the past few years. Her father lost his job, they lost their home, and now the children are all being split up because they can no longer afford to stay together. Grace is sent to the children's mission, an orphanage that she hates. Then the Hammond family provides her with the opportunity to stay with them during the Christmas holidays. The Hammonds own a boarding house and they live a life that is beyond anything that Grace ever dreamed of. But things aren't always easy at the Hammond's. Grace misses her family and feels guilty that she has food, clothes and other luxuries while her parents suffer. Then Grace is offered the chance to stay with the Hammonds permanently, to be adopted. She must make a choice: the security of never going hungry, or the love of her real family. What would you do?
